The state transportation agency recently revealed data showing a 21% decrease in motorway accidents in the first four months of 2023.
The Mumbai-Pune Motorway has seen a notable decrease in accidents and fatalities as a result of enhanced infrastructure and strict enforcement measures, which is a remarkable accomplishment for road safety. Data from the state transportation authority shows that compared to the same period in 2022, there were 21% fewer accidents on the motorway in the first four months of the current year.
According to the figures, 74 accidents were reported from January through April of this year, which is less than the 94 accidents registered during the same months in 2022. Additionally, the number of fatalities on the motorway has decreased by 10%, from 61 in 2022 to 55 in the present year.
The ADGP of Highway Traffic in Maharashtra, Dr. Ravinder Singal, emphasised the beneficial effects of the authorities' initiatives by claiming that the reduction in fatal traffic accidents extended beyond the Mumbai-Pune Motorway and included the entire state of Maharashtra. Singal credited the accomplishment to the start of a round-the-clock public campaign on the Mumbai-Pune Motorway, where committed workers were enforcing traffic laws.
